Where To Go On A First Date?

First of all, remember Safety First. Always make your first meeting on neutral ground.

The romantic picnic in the park or a walk on the promenade is probably not the safest first date. Meeting on a corner near your office is a good place. One of your co-workers can go with you on the pretense of walking home and can meet and scope out your date. You should always leave the information about who you are with and what you are doing with a trusted friend. Always remember: Safety First.

You are absolutely right here. Once I was to meet someone after talking with them on the phone for about a half hour. When I suggested that we meet and she responded by suggestied my apartment as the meeting place, I was flabbergasted. You wouldn't think that someone would do something like that these days with all the psychos out there, but she was willing. At least she was until I gave her a lecture about how reckless that was. Needless to say, we didn't wind up going out but maybe I kept her from getting her head bashed in by someone else. In addition, it made me wonder how many guys HAD taken her up on her offer.

As far as the romantic picnic in the park and the walk on the promenade, I have a different perspective on them being a guy. I think that they are probably okay as far as safety is concerned depending on the time of day, but these type dates have another strike against them. In those situations, the burden of conversation is always present. If you are a great conversationalist, you would do fine. But if you are like me and get tongue-tied saying hello, you are setting yourself up for a very looong date.

Pick a date that is connected to an event of some sort, such as a concert or a comedy club or play or something as simple as a movie. Some bookstores have special appearances by authors. That way there is something else going on if your conversation has some lulls in it.

Remember to be flexible when setting up the date. If you usually go to the movies to see things blow up and she want to see the latest sugar coated romance movie, suggest something in neutral territory. Fortunately, there has been a bunch of them recently. Films like Never Been Kissed, October Sky, and Forces of Nature provide something for both of you to enjoy. So, if she wants to go to an art exhibit and you want to go to a wrestling match, split the difference and go see a Broadway play. I saw Beauty and the Beast on Broadway that way and thoroughly enjoyed it. An amusement park is a good date as well if you are both into it. Somehow, screaming you head off with someone on Lightening Loops is a great way to break any tension that there might be between the two of you

In picking a restaurant, you should try to pick one that is conducive to conversation. If you can make a reservation, try to request a quiet table away from the kitchen and center aisle.

Also keep in mind that the restaurant that you choose is going to reflect upon you. The strip club may have great Buffalo Wings but ... save the hole in the wall dive with the great food for when the two of you know each other better. This is one of those times when first impressions are really important. It doesn't have to be the Ritz, but pick a clean respectable establishment. Bring something, anything.: a flower, a Beanie Baby, etc ...

Though most guys wouldn't admit it, we like to get stuff too. It makes us feel weird to start with, but later on we really appreciate it. Just don't get crazy. A rose is nice, a bunch of balloons is annoying. Remember that the recipient has to deal with them, all night long.
